Guide to Safely Test Your Car's Battery

In order to test the battery in your vehicle, you will need a voltmeter, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Turn the car engine off and make certain the battery terminals are free of any corrosion.
  • Take the red (positive) cable of the voltmeter and attach to the positive (+) side of the car battery.
  • The black (negative) cable on the voltmeter goes to negative (-) side of battery.
  • Turn on the voltmeter and observe the reading.
If the voltmeter returns a reading at or above 12.4, the battery is still in great shape. When the voltmeter is returning a reading of 12.2 or less, the battery is failing and might not be able to hold the charge moving forward. A dead battery may result any time moving forward if the system is not serviced.

Bring your vehicle to Pfeiffer Lincoln, Inc. and our team will give the entire charging system in your vehicle a complete check-up.
